Getting the office up and running post COVID-19 lockdown is on every organization’s mind right now. As you make plans to get back on track, here are 3 health & safety focus areas.
I. Secure Return & Screening Mechanisms
As stipulated by the Ministry of Home Affairs, plan a staggered return to work, especially if you have large teams or work out of a tech park/co-working setup. Ask only those people to return first whose function is mission critical. Everyone else can continue to work from home for a while longer. While you are at it, reassure the WFH folks that this isn’t a layoff!
You can, in the meantime, set in place screening systems to identify who all can safely return to the office and how.
II. Safe Spaces
Set up Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for cleaning, hygiene, and prevention. These will need to be based on parameters like team size, scope of your facilities etc. Start with a broad risk management framework and adapt it to your organization’s needs, involving different stakeholders.
Implement physical distancing alongside frequent sanitization, starting with high foot-fall areas (cafeteria, washrooms, main lobby) and working your way around. Remember, large meetings and gatherings are not allowed for now as per MHA guidelines and a distance of 6 feet is to be maintained between seats at job sites.
Everyone benefits from friendly reminders. Place posters and signs with WHO and CDC based tips in common areas like hallways, notice boards, canteen, etc and even as table tops.
III. Health & Wellness: COVID-19 And Beyond
The general health & wellness of your employees has never been more critical. Not only is the current pandemic hard to contain but it is particularly dangerous for people with certain pre-existing illnesses/ risks. Be mindful of the needs of people with conditions like diabetes, hypertension, asthma, lung or heart problems etc.
You may also want to pay attention to the mental health of your employees as isolation and anxiety around the pandemic take their toll. Help all employees, both virtual and in the office, navigate these times with a universal health & wellness plan managed and administered online.
